KORN Drummer: New Album Will Be Simpler, More Stripped Down

KORN guitarists James "Munky" Shaffer and Brian "Head" Welch are currently at a Los Angeles studio recording their parts for the group's new album, tentatively due in the fall.

According to drummer David Silveria, the as-yet-untitled CD is "a little heavier, a little more simple than the last couple records, a little more riff-based, not so melodic in the music," he told MTV.com. "And a little more stripped-down."

KORN's follow-up to last year's "Untouchables" will be a self-produced effort, which the band view as a refreshing change from their past approach. "The band being together and not having some outside dude over our shoulders that we don't know [makes us] all comfortable," bassist Fieldy said. "There's nobody saying, 'Do this, do that.' "

The band plan to debut new songs on this year's Ozzfest and look to have their next album out soon after completing the summer tour. It would be the sixth release by the Southern California group and would follow disappointing sales for "Untouchables", which has sold "only" 1.4 million units, according to SoundScan. That album is the worst-selling effort by the group, and its numbers are far below half of KORN's two previous full-length studio releases, 1999's "Issues" and 1998's "Follow the Leader".
